Saskia Düsselberg is a visual artist based in the seaside town of Rye, Australia.

Saskia worked in the Melbourne fashion industry for almost 2 decades, running her own locally made label and working with major Australian brands. She also helped run a High Street Art gallery for several years. In 2018 Saskia gave it all up for a sea-change and moved across the bay to the coastal town of Rye.

The daughter of two German artists, art has always been an integral part of her life. After the move Saskia encountered a health crisis, whereby art became a catalyst for her healing. Her daily practice of painting and drawing has evolved to become a full time career.

Process:

My work tends to explore spirituality; the relationship and interconnectedness between our inner and outer nature.  It is generally very emotive and intuitive. I have a curiosity with the unseen world, just beyond the periphery, the liminal edge between the tangible and the imperceptible.

My process is spontaneous and raw, emotionality steers my expression. It often involves building layers followed by extraction, whereby scraping tools and implements are involved. Like the receding tide, some of what was concealed is exposed. I mostly use oil paint and often like to layer a mix of mediums like polymers, charcoal and pastels.

“There is so much to explore in the world and within ourselves, may we remain forever curious”
